“Expert tutors.” “Highly qualified instructors.” “Top educators.”
None of these mean anything. They’re adjectives with no test attached — you can’t verify them, and nobody advertises the opposite.
So here’s ours stated as criteria you could actually check.
The floor: one of three things
To teach on NoteSight, a tutor has to be at least one of the following:
Scored in the 99th percentile on the test they teach. Not “good at standardized tests” generally. That specific test, that scoring band. Someone who has personally solved the problem the student is sitting in.
Actively grades that test. A different and underrated qualification. Graders know what earns credit, which is not always what a student assumes earns credit — especially on written sections.
Six-plus years teaching the subject. The classroom path. Someone who has watched a few hundred students misunderstand the same concept in the same way, and who has learned five different ways to explain it.
Across 50+ subjects. Average rating 4.9.
Why the screen is the smaller half
Here’s the thing most services won’t tell you: a great tutor who doesn’t know your child yet is not that much better than a good one.
The expertise only converts into points once it’s aimed at the right target. A 99th-percentile scorer spending session three still probing for weak spots is an expensive way to run a diagnostic.
So the second criterion matters as much as the first: what does the tutor know before they walk in?
On NoteSight, they’ve read the student’s Blueprint — the ranked list of which gaps are costing the most points. They know where to start before the first hello.
That’s the difference between session one being an interview and session one being work.
Three questions for any tutoring service
Use these on us too.
- What is the minimum qualification to teach here — stated as a fact, not an adjective?
- What will my child’s tutor know about them before the first session?
- If the match isn’t working, what happens?
Any service that answers all three concretely is worth taking seriously. Any service that answers in adjectives is telling you something.
